Bemis Center for Contemporary Art
The spirit and programs of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts are based on the conviction that exceptional talent deserves to be supported. Our practical commitment to this belief is achieved by providing well-equipped studio spaces, living accommodations and a monthly stipend to artists who are awarded residencies.
ART 316
Realizing that artists have historically been pioneers in downtowns across the United States, ART 316 serves as a catalyst to greater downtown Des Moines development. Because of its location as the southern anchor for the Court Avenue Historic Distric, this area has been identified in the Court Avenue Housing Study as an Arts District.
Torpedo Factory The TFAC is one of the largest and most successful visual arts centers in
the U.S. It is located in beautiful Old Town Alexandria just outside of
Washington, D.C. on the docks of the Potomac River. A renovated former
torpedo factory that was built after World War I, it now consists of three
floors of artist studios, galleries, workshops, an art school, and an
archaeology museum.
